Yoga For Sleep Apnea

Yoga is the art of attaining the inner self. The very purpose of yoga is to attain peace and bring a balance between the body and soul. Yoga has gained much popularity recently all around the world.

As people have become more enlightened about the importance of physical well-being, they have realized the massive role that yoga plays to keep you both physically and mentally well. Most psychiatrists today suggest their patients go for yogic exercises and meditation to attain mental peace and maintain their mental health intact. Yoga basically helps you in ways you could never think of and this is the reason why it has not only given away to life but has become a way of life. It not only helps when you are awake but helps you when you fall asleep or in deep sleep too.

How Does Practicing Yoga Help You Sleep Better?

Many adults suffer from sleeping disorders due to many reasons like hectic schedules, continuous working hours, personal and professional stress, or other health issues too. Sleeping problems are majorly in the case of the elderly and oldies mostly due to old age. Many surveys and researches provided evidence that yoga can not only be beneficial to improve the core strength, bodily flexibility, and levels of basic mental and physical stress; but this daily yoga practice can improve your sound sleep and sleeping habits too. Yoga can help you fall asleep faster and deeper without disturbances.

Apnea Sleeping Disorder

Have you heard of something called Apnea? Well, the answer would mostly be negative as not everyone is aware of this medical technical word for breathing disorder while asleep. Apnea is a situation when the upper respiratory pipe’s muscles get collected together forming blockings and ultimately forcing the person to wake up to breathe when a little difficulty occurs while breathing. The situation gets worse to the extent wherein patients have to wake up several times a night leading them to no sleep at all. This in turn causes severe anxiety and stress due to improper or no sleep. It is extremely disturbing for your health in the long run.

Yoga asanas consist of several pranayama and asanas that help in curing breathing difficulties. Many individuals have even achieved improvements in most critical breathing disorders like bronchitis, asthma, etc. So, most yoga exercises help in curing out apnea, by strengthening the upper muscles of the windpipe.

Although it is not a direct and only treatment for sleep apnea, yoga breathing exercises help in strengthening the core trachea and helps in breathing by reducing the symptoms of sleep apnea to the minimum possible extent. Most surveys proved the fact that people who practice yoga responded well to medical conditions that they felt better and more lively and energetic than people who do not practice yoga regularly. It not only cures particular body parts but helps in achieving overall great health and helps you stay in shape. This is also true for the elderly who usually suffer insomnia – for say they realized the regular yoga and felt better sleeping and better quality of sleep than before without practicing yoga.

But, more often than not have you known that exercise can help reduce stress? And a major reason for any kind of sleeping disorder or lack of sleep is stress. If you have ever fallen ill due to sleeping issues, try adding a new yoga exercise routine from your bed with yoga. Most people are of the wrong belief that yoga before bedtime would make you weak or unfit, but this is absolutely the opposite. Yoga can also dramatically reduce stress and calm the mind that can lead to better overall sleep quality.

Many exercises help in your sleep apnea or sleeping disorder caused due to irregular breathing. If you want to involve yoga in your sleep routine, it is important to choose the right yoga pose. Not every yoga asana can help you in relaxing your mind and body, but the few mentioned asanas will:

Feet on the wall: In this pose, you need to lie on the floor at the back and place the back of your legs to a wall (keep your legs straight) so your body is in a caliber or L shape. Relax in position, hold for at least 30 seconds and focus on your breathing with regular inhalation, hold, and exhalation.

Butterfly lying down: Herein you need to lie on the ground at the back. Press the back of the feet against each other and let the knees fall on the sides. You can put a pillow under your knees if it seems very painful, and just relax in this posture for a few seconds and then go back to normal.

Laying off like the corpse: In this posture, you shall lie on the ground at the back with straight legs, arms on the sides, and palms facing up. Breathe slowly, focus on your breathing when you inhale, and exhale after holding your breath for 10 seconds.

Regular exercise can have enormous and vital benefits on your health, well-being, and life in general. You just have to stick to it to keep it more and more worthy in life. Research shows that Yoga helps relieve stress so you can sleep more peacefully and the people who were practicing yoga cope up well with stress and anxiety to get you going with great sleep.
